| We were proud to welcome guest speakers from GBRMPA, WTMA, QPWS, Girringun TUMRA, and Reef Ecologic, and to hear from historian Iain McCalman about John Busst’s incredible conservation story. Reflecting the overall atmosphere the Johnstone River Ukes finished the day with some cruisy tunes. The ABC Back Roads team filmed throughout the day — keep an eye out for the Mission Beach episode early next year! The Open Day was part of a whole weekend of GBR50 celebrations: A reception at Dunk Island and special ghost net exhibition at Mission Arts on Friday night; Ninney Rise Community Open day on Saturday; a Gala Dinner on Saturday night and a Clump Point fish trap clean-up on Sunday Thanks to everyone who came and made this such a special community event! Read the full coverage with photos here | The Ninney Rise Community Open Day was a huge success! Over 400 people joined us to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act.
The ‘Cacophonous Curlews’ choir opened the event singing Mission Beach Naturally – A Magic Place, a song written and recorded by Mission Beach State School kids in 2017, the perfect tone for the celebration. |
