On the 17th August the Friends of Ninney Rise (FoNR) held a launch for the Ninney Rise and John Büsst Plaque Conservation Management Plan at Ninney Rise. Friends of Ninney Rise inc are very pleased with the outcome of a year’s work in research and assessment, leading to the acceptance of this plan. DEHP kindly approved an Everyone’s Environment grant to FoNR to engage a consultant to prepare the CMP, supplemented by FoNR fundraising. The long awaited Plan will now guide the future of the Qld Heritage listed property at Bingil Bay. |
Following FoNR President Suzie Smith's welcome and acknowledgment of the Djiru people, James Newman, Regional Director, Northern Region, Queensland National Parks Service officially launched the Plan to an audience of fifty guests and invited dignitaries. Celebrating the achievements of John and Alison Büsst's lead in the battle to protect the rainforest and Reef which ultimately led to the listing of both the Wet tropics and the Great Barrier Reef onto the World heritage register it was a fitting occasion to honour Margaret Thorsborne, AO and Brenda Harvey AOM for their long time contribution to the conservation movement
After the brief formalities, guests enjoyed an afternoon tea and opportunity to explore the unique house and grounds of Ninney Rise. Entertainment was provided with live music by talented young duo Lily O'Brien and Seth Venables.
Friends of Ninney Rise are working with Mission Beach Tourism to organise regular tours of Ninney Rise making the heritage listed property available to visitors in the near future.
